Calathea is a genus of flowering plant belonging to the family Marantaceae. They are commonly called prayer plants because during the night, the leaves fold up and in the morning, the leaves unfurl in search of the sun.

Calathea require minimal care indoors and prefer filtered light to shade. They are humidity loving plants, making them the perfect addition to a bathroom. Water when the first inch or two is dry and, depending on variety, they can do better with distilled or filtered water.
